Description::

The term "Adjunct" has a very specific meaning. An Adjunct Faculty is a contract employee hired to teach specific course(s) during an academic term on a part-time basis. An Adjunct Faculty member is not eligible for benefits.

Details:

  1. For a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30), the Adjunct Faculty Member shall serve as a part-time employee of the College.
  2. Adjunct Faculty may teach no more than 24 credit hours per fiscal year.
  3. Adjunct faculty will receive a master adjunct contract, as well as course specific contract. Each course specific contract shall list: 1) the Adjunct Faculty members name, employee number, address and phone number; and 2) the course number, course title, number of credit hours, start date, end date, account code and the payment amount.

Responsibilities & Duties:

As an instructor, the Adjunct Faculty member's duties are to:

  1. Convey the course material so that students can attain the instructional objectives of the course.
  2. If requested to do so by the Department Chairperson, complete a course assessment for courses taught under the terms of this contract.
  3. Ensure that all course material is available to students the first day of class via Cecil College’s Canvas Learning Management system. If the course is team taught, the faculty member agrees to submit all information required at or prior to the date set by the department or course coordinator.
  4. Meet program specific requirements for employment and supervision of students in any clinical or practicum setting.
  5. Hold classes for the full amount of time specified.
  6. Notify the Academic Programs Office if there is an urgent reason to miss class.
  7. Be reasonably accessible to students via email or in person, return students’ assignments in a timely manner.
  8. Facilitate quality learning experiences for students.
  9. Assess and evaluate students' performance, collaboratively, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.
  10. Teach specific hours or contact hours per week as assigned, or the equivalent in educational requirements and activities.
  11. Assist with student advisement and remediation.
  12. Use the Academic Monitoring system as per Cecil College procedures and submit grades and all other end of semester documentation in a timely manner. If the course is team taught, the adjunct faculty member shall submit all grade information to the department or course coordinator by identified due dates.
  13. Use the College email account assigned to the member shall be used for College communications and shall check that account on a daily basis.
  14. Actively support Cecil College’s the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CCLA) and Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSEE) testing programs by ensuring that designated students are released for these testing programs.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited PT program, or deemed equivalent program.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state where employed (Maryland).
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a PT.
  • Experience treating patients with a variety of neurological diagnoses such as Parkinson’s Disease, CVA, SCI, TBI, vestibular dysfunction and/or concussion.
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Able to meet the faculty requirements as stated in the Standards and Required Elements of Physical Therapist Assistant Programs.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy.
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.

Preferred Requirements: (in no specific order)

  • Clinical Neurological Specialist.
  • Member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Prior teaching experience in PT or PTA program or equivalent coursework.
  • Knowledge of education, management, and adult learning theories and principles.
  • Active in clinical practice, especially as applicable to clinical education.
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

The Fiscal Year 2025 Credit Adjunct Scale is as follows: 2 semesters of less at Cecil ($820 a credit hour for individuals with less than a Masters+60 or $845 a credit hour for individuals Masters+60 or a Earned Doctorate); More than 2 semesters at Cecil ($845 a credit hour for individuals with less than a Masters+60 or $870 a credit hour for individuals Masters+60 or a Earned Doctorate)
