Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of Information Technology Manager I (IT Mgr I) the Information Technology Specialist I (IT Spec I) will serve as an Information Security Auditor in the Department of Technology Office of Information Security (OIS), Audit Research. The IT Spec I will support the execution of information security program audits through activities involving the Statewide Information Security Oversight program. The IT Spec I is responsible for supporting timely execution of high-quality information security program audits of state agencies, to validate requisite information security controls are in place and are working as intended.

Telework 
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule within California based on departmental policy and operational needs. The telework policy is subject to change depending on business needs, and/or reporting to the work site may be required with minimal notification given.

Working Conditions

CA Residency:

  • Work is conducted in a professional office environment.
  • Business dress, according to current office policy, is required.
  • This position may require the ability to work excess hours, to effectively handle stress while working under pressure to meet deadlines, use of a computer to communicate and prepare written materials, and the ability to travel to meetings, audit locations and conferences at various locations.

  • Required to support a work from home environment.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Professional security industry recognized certifications such as the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) are desirable, but not required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state information security policies, standards, principles, practices and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of governance, advisory, and fieldwork audit processes.
  • Information Technology background and auditing experience.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, independence of action, and originality.
  • Demonstrate tact and good independent judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to easily adapt to changing priorities; lead a team of employees and/or working groups.
  • Maintain consistent, predictable attendance in the performance of the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to promote a business climate and culture of integrity, respect, excellence, and teamwork.
