Job Classification: Police Officer
Grand Island Police Department is currently hiring Police Officers. Candidates are required to complete the NTN Frontline exam & PSSA along with completing the department application. All testing and Applications must be received no later than March 28, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Job Application below:
NOTE: Candidates wishing to schedule an in-person exam which the department will be hosting on April 19, 2025, at 9:00 AM, Please select the In-Person option and select the Grand Island Police location.
Salary Information: $31.37-$44.35 / hr
Benefits Information:
HEALTH INSURANCE: Blue Cross/Blue Shield coverage provided to the employee and dependents. There are two options: a Qualified High Deductible Plan with an HSA, or a Traditional PPO plan. If your spouse is eligible for coverage on their employer's group health plan, spousal coverage with the City is not available.
The semi-monthly premiums for the High Deductible Plan: ($3300/$5800 deductible)

The semi-monthly premiums for the Traditional PPO Plan: ($1000/$2000 deductible)

DENTAL INSURANCE: Delta Dental coverage provided to employee and dependents. The employee is responsible for a portion of the premium. $4.65 for Single, $8.78 for Emp. 2/4 or $14.09 for Family semi-monthly.
VISION INSURANCE: EyeMed Vision coverage is available to employees and dependents. The employee is responsible for the full premium. Employee only - $7.09; Employee/Spouse - $13.88; Employee/Children - $14.61; Family - $21.48. All rates are monthly payroll deductions.
LIFE INSURANCE: Securian/Ochs coverage provided for employee ($50,000), spouse ($10,000), and dependents ($5,000 each), with premiums paid by the City. Supplemental life insurance available for employee and dependents through payroll deduction.
RETIREMENT PLAN: Mandatory Union Bank Retirement Plan, 7% of gross earnings matched by the City of Grand Island. Effective on date of employment. Seven year vesting schedule.
DEFERRED COMP: Five optional Deferred Compensation Plans that allow pre-tax contributions up to $18,000/year.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY: CIGNA- LTD provided for employees. Pays a portion (60%, maximum of $8500 per month) of the employee's salary should he/she become disabled.
CAFETERIA/125 PLAN: Optional participation by the employee. Can be used for medical expenses, non-employer sponsored premiums and/or dependent daycare
VEBA PLAN: MidAmerica. Post-employment plan to be used for post-employment medical expenses. Contributions made by the City.
PAID VACATION: Vacation leave is earned and accrued in bi-weekly increments in the following manner: 90 hours in years 1 - 4; 106 hours in years 5 - 9; 134 hours in years 10 - 14; 172 hours in years 15 - 19; 188 hours in years 20 - 22; and 206 hours in years 23 and beyond. No vacation can be used during the introductory period.
PAID HOLIDAYS: Nine holidays and 2 shifts of personal leave.
MEDICAL LEAVE: Accrual of 8 hours per month which is cumulative to a maximum of 1,887 hours.
Certified Officer Hiring Incentives:
* $5,000 certification credit will be paid upon hire to a Nebraska-certified applicant or to an out-of-state certified applicant upon completion of Nebraska's Reciprocity Certification process through the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.
* 50 hours of comp time to be given upon hire of a Nebraska-certified applicant or to an out-of-state certified applicant upon completion of Nebraska's Reciprocity Certification process. Certified applicants are required to complete all phases of the testing and hiring process as all other candidates.
Certified candidates will receive additional preference points to their written score but will need to pass the exam with a 70% or higher without the preference points to continue our testing process.

3. Successfully complete the NTN test
4. Successfully complete the background investigation
5. In-person interviews to include a home visit and formal panel interview
6. Upon a conditional offer, applicants must complete the following steps before employment:

3. Physical Fitness Exam
4. Doctors Physical and Drug Screen
