Position: Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator
Description:
Custom Software Systems (Inc.) is seeking an experienced Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator consultant. The Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator will manage and optimize the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring system stability, security, and performance while supporting a range of enterprise applications. This role requires advanced expertise in Linux administration, automation, troubleshooting, and security best practices.
Responsibilities: - Installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers across development, testing, and production environments.
- Performing system upgrades, patch management, and security hardening to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency.
- Implementing automation scripts using Ansible, Bash, or Python to streamline system administration tasks.
- Configuring and maintaining Red Hat Satellite, Identity Management (IdM), and other RHEL ecosystem tools.
- Collaborating with security teams to ensure systems are protected against vulnerabilities and comply with security policies.
- Maintaining and optimizing storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Supporting application teams by providing guidance on best practices for Linux-based deployments.
- Maintaining documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participating in on-call support and incident resolution activities as required.
- Set up Network File Server (NFS) and mount points.
- Configuring Cron jobs for both systems and applications.
Requirements: Required Qualifications: - Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (must be issued by Red Hat with valid certification number).
- Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in engineering, computer science, or related field.
- US Citizen or Green Card holder.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Experience working in a complex networked system environment with strong networking skills.
- Administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries systems.
- Administering systems, including (but not limited to):
- Oracle WebLogic Servers
- Oracle Database Servers
- Progress 4GL/Database Servers/OpenEdge
- Apache Web Servers
- vSphere hosted RHEL Servers
- Rubrik backup systems
- Oracle Database backups
- PeopleSoft
- Mobius
- Elastic Search
- Oracle OBI
- CVS (Concurrent Version System)
- Red Hat performance tuning, load balancing, partitioning, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery.
- Work in 24/7 system availability environments.
- Application development.
- Red Hat and Electronic Imaging support.
- Teamwork skills, effective communication, leadership.
- User and helpdesk interface for daily support.
- Backup/recovery and networking methodologies.
- Troubleshoot at OS, database, application level.
- Advanced knowledge of Red Hat administration, configuration, and tuning.
Desired Qualifications: - 10+ years as a Red Hat system administrator.
- 10+ years administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries.
- 15+ years in IT field.
